Went to my chiropractor last night with the hopes that some of his contraptions would make this damn hip feel better. It felt good last night after he was done, but today it is again aching like crazy. I am beginning to think that it is possibly a flexibility issue. Since incorporating glute-hams and reverse hypers into my routine, my hamstrings have become very tight. Good for squatting-but possibly pulling on my pelvis too much and causing some in-balance issues. I will make an attempt to stretch every night before bed and see if it starts to go away. As of right now I am split 50-50 on whether or not I will deadlift tomorrow or take the week off from pulling. I have been going 6 weeks straight with no rest, so I am thinking this would be a good time to insert a down week and rest my back, glutes, hamstrings, and hips. There is a good chance I will stay in bed tomorrow morning. One thing I am learning in my old age is rest = good things. I used to push hard all the time and would always end up hurt, this time I know: LESS IS MORE. Ed Coan says he sleeps 10 hours a day. Sleep is good and I finally got a solid 8 hours last night with no sleep medication.
Hit chest this am. It feels good to be back to doing chest work. My torn pec is developing funny-the muscle that tore and went across the pec is balling up into a softball like formation in the middle of my pec with a large hole to the right of it where it tore loose. I can see surgery being a possibility somewhere down the line. Anyway-
-Incline bench press: 190 x5, x5, x5. Taking this slow and steady, as long as I get all sets of 5, I will be adding only 5 pounds a week. 190 was pretty light, I could have went to 205 or more and got the reps, but the key this time is TO NOT PUSH IT TO HARD! I want to try and keep this pec attached as long as possible.
-Flat bench db press: 75s x15, x15, x15, x15. I will now go to the 80s. The goal is to stay at a set of dbs until I get 4 sets of 15 reps with them. I rested maybe a minute in between. Last time I pushed these and was doing the heaviest bells in the gym, 110s, for 8s in like 4 weeks. That might have something to do with the pec going POP.
-Cybex Pec Deck: 150 x10, x10, x10.
Thats it for chest. As the weeks go by and I feel better and my chest is getting stronger, I will add another exercise. I will stay away from all flat benching unless I am in a shirt as that seems to be the worst movement for me. When I do add something it will either be incline flys or decline db presses.
Speaking of the chiropractor, he tried to kill me last night! LOL! I haven't been to this guy in 2 months, I usually just swing by another local guy and get cracked and I am good to go. The guy I went to last night actually does deep tissue massage as well and puts me on a torture table that stretches me out, so sometimes I like to go to him. Anyway, last night I am laying on my belly and I hear this machine fire up. Next thing I now he is doing electrical stim. on my back. Thats cool and all, but I have a pacemaker...electrical stim is bad news for me. Luckily, he remembered after only about 5 seconds then apologized for about the next 20 minutes. All was good. I felt it screw with me for about 3 seconds, but a pacemaker is an incredible tool-it goes right back to normal and all is well.
Nick has a new article I wrote on squatting weaknesses. He should be getting up sometime in the near future.
I grew up idolizing this guy. I always wanted to look like him...back then I knew nothing about drugs or other things. I had posters of him all over my walls. Most 13 year olds have girls on their walls...not me. Dorian was the man:
Take care, be safe-
